Dr. William Scherrer earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at University of California, Davis, and then completed an internship at Texas A&M University. He returned to UC Davis for his residency, and became board certified in surgery as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (DACVS). He’s been practicing surgery since 2007, and has been the Medical Director of VSH San Marcos since 2019. Dr. Scherrer’s professional interests focus on orthopedic surgery, chronic wound management, trauma care and surgery. He has also performed treatments for more exotic animals such as a fracture repair in a rhesus macaque research monkey, intestinal surgery on a gerbil, fracture repair on a golden eagle, and amputation of a severely injured limb on a three-toed sloth at the Jaguar rescue in Costa Rica, and was asked to participate in the PBS documentary A Sloth Named Velcro.

Outside of veterinary medicine he enjoys staying fit and adventures with his daughter and wife, as well as their two golden retrievers.
